My Poster

Comparing two movies posters in the same genre as my film. "Horror"

I chose these two films to compare as they are both very eye catching and straight away indicate what the films genre is (horror). Both posters use a vey effective picture which to me tells me thats what the film is about, in the poster on the left a axe is the main attraction on the poster as the background is dark so their is more attention on the axe. By the axe being made "centre of attention" Iwould presume the film is about somone killing people with an axe. On the other poster a large man tying a mask at the back of his head is the main attention in the poster and the fact that their is behind the shoulder shot of a house lit up. Its easy to presume this film is about a "mad man" going in to house and tourturing people who live their. So in terms of simalarities they both use dark back ground to ehance the picture more. They both use bold texts so the name of the film is easily indentified. However i think "The Collector" poster is more interesting and would be more exciting to watch then "Hatchet" because just by looking at both posters their is a contrast of colour in The Collecter poster and draws your attention more then the othe poster and makes it stand out more. Aswell as the the title of the film Collecter has lines going through it which to me says it definantly not a clean film and will be grusome however Hatchet is a clear, clean font which makes the film not seem very scary.

Marketing a "Blockbuster"

FEMALE  ----------COMEDY----------  MALE
Romance        Period        Suspense        Horror        Crime        Action        Sci Fi

My film is horror so is aimed at both sexs but may appeal more to males.

Who is my target audience?
Female and Male of the age 15 and above. Released near Halloween as it is a horror.
I believe short shots of the film should be released atleast 3 months before so people
are aware of the film and from the short clips can see what its genre is and what the
film is about. I will raise awarness and interest by releasing trailers but also by
advertising the film on popular sites such as facebook and put pictures of the film on
bilboards.

Media stratergy summary: Make is the most anticipated film.
Example:
Straight away from looking at this you can see it is going to be scary. By what you can see from the silhouettes of the people you can take a guess that their trapped and in pain The name its self "the human centipede" helps to see what might of happened to the people behind what looks like a glass door. Also the colours arent bright and doesnt make you think happy. By the green a black colours used it makes you think scary and goury. Also by the facial expression of the person you can see its actually scary and makes the film be seen as a horrible goury film.

I need to apply this to my film, i need to make sure the poster can not be mistaken and as soon as you look at it, it draws you and but also awares you that it is a horror. I think i will do this by using a creepy font like the one above. Have a picture of the man who is doing the killings but with a very serious face so it does not give it away what the whole film is about.

Also i might market the film on some of the food and drink sold in the cinema, so when people are watching their film as they eat and drink my film will be advertised on the side of their popcorn this will interest them and aware of my new and up coming film.

I could also run competitions on winning trips to where the film is set, also make a page for the film where new competitions and information about the film will be released. I could create games and quizzes on the website for small prizes.

I could also create apps for phones to be updated on the film but also games for ps3's and xboxs.

Factors i need to consider:
Is it a genre movie? yes it is horror so will most likely appeal more to a certain age group instead of everyone in certainly won't appeal to children.

Will reveiws matter? Reveiws will matter as if someone who would of been interested in the film suddenly see's a bad review it could make them think twice about spending money on going to see a film that is badly reveiwed.

What similair films have been released? Similair halloween based films might be released around the same time, however as mine is not based on about halloween, after the period of hallowen, people will still be interested in watching it. Where films based on halloween might have high amount of showings during the halloween period but after will people still be interested in watching a film which will seem "old" as it was based on halloween and its some time round christmas.

My decisions about my Horror Film

My role as a film distributor acquire the film prints, plan the release. What I mean by this is the key decisions including  who the films target audience are and how I'm going to promote it.  Also I will need to advertise, publicise and promote the film. Further more ill have to make sure acting is under license.
My chosen genre is HORROR.
My film will be released mid October next year (Halloween)
I Will be looking to release my film in:
Vue Cinemas
Odeon
Cinema World

 What my film is about:
The film I want to make is a physiological thriller. Its based on a man who has a family consisting of 2 girls and one boy and his wife. One day when he comes home after work the wife has been rapped and murdered and the children killed too. Due to this “Steve” wants revenge and goes out looking for the people who killed his family and put him through hell. Steve at this point should be in a mental institution  but he thinks the people who killed his family should pay for what they have done. A lot of research and un needed deaths lead to him finding the people who were responsible for the death of his family and him brutally tochering them.

Release of my film
My genre is Horror so i will  release it around October. As Halloween is 31st October and a lot of people will to go and watch a scary film. Even though this does sounds very obvious. I asked some people when they would most likely go ans see a horror film and they did say the best time and exciting time to watch it is around the time of halloween.

Prints

Enough prints will be made to cover the bigger cinema markets obvioulsy including the UK and America.

Why and where?
As i already said i am looking to distribrue my film to:
My Vue Cinema
Odeon Cinema
Cinema World
I chose these cinemas pacifically as once again i asked my researchers to ask door to door interveiws about my film around a variety of different areas. The overall reason i chose them is because these i have proved to be the most popular cinemas people go to.

My Target audience is people 15 or over as the footage of t he film is brutal and don’t think  young people should be expose to it. Also I think people who are of age will undeAs you can see film distributor have a huge part making a film successful. I will control the marketing and circulation of the film in theatre's and also home viewing (DVD, pay-per-view, television rights, etc.). I will decide how much the film should be advertised example magazines, posters and trailers. As this is important for people know about it and can take a interest in it. I will also decided how long the film will be shown in theatres for. rstand the film more and will be more interested in what it has to offer.

S.W.O.T of my Film

Strengths:
My film is heavily advertised a month before halloween so alot of people will be interesting in watching at hallooween.
The story it quite realistic so people could have more of a interest in watching it as it is something that could possibley happen in real life.
The film will have well known actors that have appeared in other horror films so the film will have alot more interest as the audience may just really like the actors and want to see them.
Last of all as it is released at hallooween and it is realistic the audience will wants to watch it to scare themselves and once they have seen advertisment for it, they will think it it the ideal scary film to watch over halooween.

Weaknesses:
As the film is very gory, jumpy and quite physologically scary the film will most likely be a 15 or even maybe and 18 this could lower the amount of people who can actually come and watch the film.

Oppurtunites:
Obvioulsy there is an opportuinity of merchandising, maybe not as much as you can with a kids film of making clothes, school stationairy. But however i could still produce a game for the film, advertise it on the packaging of food bought in the cinema.
Also if the film is a success it will promote my name well and could lead to me being asked to being involved in other films of this genre.

Threats:
Alot of film distributors will bring their horror films out on hallooween as they know it is the perfect time so their will be alot of competition.
Also if their film is a well known film and it is a sequence I personally think people would rather watch that.

Learning through Info Trac

We used Info trac to help research out films. It consists of two main databases, those being Info trac full newspaper data base of English language newspaper articles and Info trac one file of magazine articles acrros a wide range of topic. Many articles are full text.   e

Useful things that i found out using Info Trac
Search words are highlighted in red. You can choose to print, email, download, and bookmark or share the article using the options in the Tools box on the right hand side of the screen.

You have the option of specifying or the use of and, this i know as Boolean searching. By using this the results shown are magazine articles. However articles for other types of media, on the left hand side of the screen their are books, images, videos and audios. Its good to have these as you can compare all the documents you have researched. The good thing is the most most recent articles are displayed first.

Aswell as that you dont always have to print the articles. In the tool box, you can email articles to friends or yourself and download and save them to your documents.
Infotrac is so useful on searching and finding information and helped me alot researching my about my film genre. m udies Students
